You're afraid of success and you know it

You're caught in a paradox right now.

You want success more than anything...

But success terrifies you.

Let me explain.

I was walking through the Gulch this morning on my way to E+Rose, listening to everyone around me talking about their "someday" plans.

"Someday I'll start my own business."
"Someday I'll launch that podcast."
"Someday I'll pursue what I actually care about."

And it hit me - these people aren't afraid of failure.

They're afraid of everything going RIGHT.

Think about it.

You know exactly what you need to do to get what you want. You're smarter than you give yourself credit for.

But you don't do it.

Why?

Because the dream is comfortable. It's safe in your head. You can fantasize about it all day without risk.

The second it becomes reality though? Terrifying.

Because now it means you can lose it at any second.

And THAT is what truly scares you.

Most of us are used to failure. We've been conditioned for it our entire lives.

"You probably can't do that."
"That's not realistic."
"Be practical."

So failure? We can handle it. It's familiar territory.

But success? Having everything you've dreamed about and then watching it slip away because of your own doing?

That's the nightmare scenario.

I see this all the time with potential clients. They'll "forget" to follow up with me after our initial conversation. Or they'll disqualify themselves before I even have the chance to.

It was almost subconscious.

They didn't want the pressure of actually succeeding, so they'd sabotage themselves.

You can only grow as big as you allow yourself to be.

Yes, there are future repercussions that come with success.

But you want to know the key to getting over your fear?

Accept your unpreparedness.

You probably aren't equipped to handle an abundance of responsibility, attention, or expectations.

If tomorrow, you were given one million followers on social media, a $500k/mo business, dozens of clients and a big team...

You'd probably crumble.

You'd be too nervous to post any content. Your clients would leave because you don't know how to lead. And the business would go to shit...

But that's exactly why the journey exists.

It's there to mold you into the person capable of receiving success.

Go through challenges. You'll be forced to grow.

The more you overcome, the more prepared you become.

By the time you reach the top of the mountain, you'll have won so many battles that you're bulletproof.

The "downsides" you were once afraid of no longer hold any power over you.

Yesterday, I went for a sweat session at Pure Sweat and met someone who was wanting to quit their job and do their own thing.

They told me they'd been on the fence about starting their business for months.

I asked them, "What's really stopping you?"

They thought for a moment and said, "I guess I'm afraid I might actually succeed."

Congrats on your self-awareness, friend.

You've identified the real enemy.

Soon enough the pressure will feel weightless,

Grant.
