- Two choices. That's it.
Two choices. That's it.
I'm walking back from E+Rose in the Gulch, watching the construction workers across the street.
They're building another luxury high-rise that'll house tech bros who'll complain about their $4,000/month rent while making $200k at Amazon.
It's 8:47am and these guys have already been working for two hours.
Hard hats, steel-toed boots, the whole nine.
And you know what hit me as I sipped my $20 smoothie?
These dudes are literally building someone else's dream.
Some real estate mogul's vision of Nashville's skyline.
And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But here's the thing...
You have exactly two choices in life:
Build your own dreams.
Or spend your life building someone else's.
That's it.
No in-between. No "well actually" exceptions.
The construction worker? Building the developer's dream.
The Amazon engineer? Building Bezos' empire.
The Starbucks barista? Making Brian Niccol richer.
Again - nothing wrong with any of this.
But if you're reading this email at 11am on a weekday instead of being in some fluorescent-lit office...
You probably want option one.
You want to wake up in your penthouse overlooking the Cumberland River and think, "Holy shit, I built this."
You want to drive your dream car to Pure Sweat Sauna Studio because you can afford to sweat in a $40 infrared session instead of the free suffering that comes with a regular job.
But here's why most people end up as option two...
They're scared.
Scared of failing.
Scared of what their parents will think.
Scared of the uncertainty.
Scared that maybe they're not special enough to pull it off.
So they take the "safe" route.
They get the degree, the stable job, the 401k.
And 30 years later they're sitting in their Honda Accord wondering what the hell happened to their life.
"I was gonna start that business..."
"I had this idea once..."
"Maybe in retirement I'll..."
Shut up.
You had your chance and you chose safety over possibility.
Look, I'm not saying everyone should quit their job tomorrow and start drop-shipping fidget spinners.
But I am saying this:
If you have any entrepreneurial bone in your body...
If you've ever looked at someone living their dream life and thought "that could be me"...
If you're tired of making other people rich while you stress about your credit card bill...
Then stop making excuses.
Stop waiting for the "perfect time."
Stop hoping someone's gonna save you.
The construction workers will keep building other people's towers.
The question is: what are you building?
Your dreams or theirs?
Choose wisely. Time's ticking.
To building your own empire,
Grant
P.S. If you're ready to stop being a construction worker in someone else's life and start being the architect of your own, I've got an AI copywriting framework that shows you exactly how to build your own copywriting business. But only if you're done making excuses.
