Noble reasons are for poor people

I'm walking around the Gulch right now, watching people struggle to get the perfect Instagram photo in front of the wings mural.

It's 77 degrees. Perfect Nashville spring weather.

I just got back from E+Rose where I paid $14 for a smoothie bowl that probably cost $2 to make.

Speaking of money...

Everyone's always telling you that you need some deeply profound reason for wanting to be successful.

"It can't just be about the money."

"You need a strong why."

"Your purpose needs to be about helping others."

Shut the fuck up.

Sometimes you just want a penthouse with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Nashville.

Sometimes you want to walk into Yolan and order the $160 strip steak with a paired wine without checking your bank account first.

Sometimes you want a supercar that makes that annoying "I make six figures" guy in his C8 Corvette feel like he's driving a Honda Civic.

And you know what?

That's perfectly fine.

Your "why" doesn't need 7 layers of complexity and altruism.

If buying a ridiculously expensive coffee every morning while overlooking the Cumberland River motivates you to put in the work...

Then let that be your fuel.

The people telling you that your motivations aren't "noble enough" are usually the same ones who've convinced themselves that their Toyota Camry and cubicle job are what they actually wanted all along.

Look, I'm not saying you should be a selfish asshole who only cares about money.

But I am saying that being honest about what truly motivates you is more powerful than fabricating some bullshit story about wanting to "change the world."

The world changes when people pursue their genuine desires with conviction.

So stop feeling guilty about wanting nice things.

Stop apologizing for your ambition.

And for God's sake, stop pretending you're only doing this to help orphaned children in Antarctica.

Own your selfish reasons.

They'll get you out of bed when nothing else will.

Talk tomorrow,

Grant
