Your environment will make or break you

During the Vietnam war, 34% of american soldiers had an addiction to heroine.

Doctors were concerned that those habits would continue when the soldiers came home and that it would cause havoc to their communities.

But what they saw shocked them.

After the soldiers came back when the war ended, only 1% of them still continued to use the drugs.

It turns out they weren’t so addicted to the drug but rather they were rid of the environment that would trigger that drug use.

And this brings me to the whole point, which is why environment is so important.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that you’re the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with.

If you hang out with 5 losers all the time, you’ll be the 6th.

If you hang out with 5 millionaires all the time, you’ll be the 6th.

That saying couldn’t be any more true.

I used to hang out with people who would just play video games all day and go the bars every weekend.

So guess what I did with my time?

It wasn’t until last year that I decided to change my circle and start taking my life/business more seriously.

I was hanging out with people who were making $40k/month, driving supercars, took fitness seriously, and had successful businesses.

And within 6 months of hanging out with them, I got into the best shape of my life and increased my annual income by 8x.

No that wasn’t a typo.

By the fifth month I had made my yearly salary in a month and then proceeded to generate 8x more income as well as building my dream physique just by hanging out with the right people.

Now this doesn’t mean you completely cut off all your friends you’ve known your whole life, unless they are truly toxic to your growth.

But try and spend more time with people who are where you want to be and get out of your hometown.

You’d be surprised how much your life changes just by moving out and being in a new city.

When I moved from the Chicago suburbs to Nashville, it was a huge change in my life.

I’m in a luxury apartment that has a saltwater pool, gym, every amenity you could imagine, and in a gated community.

Just that alone fires me up and inspires me to grind out work everyday knowing it only gets better from here.

When you’re in your hometown, all you ever know is that town.

And there could be some bad habits that you take on that you don’t even realize you do.

Moving to a new city with new people puts you in an almost stressful like state.

You have bills to pay and new friends you have to make, you’re forced to get out of your comfort zone and make good things happen in your life.

Also being around a community of other people in a similar situation like you that are also trying to level up, is the secret ingredient to winning.

So take some risks, do something you don’t normally do, and get out of your comfort zone.

Start small and gradually do more things that scare you (within reason).

I promise you’ll see growth you didn’t even know was possible.
